The Mindfulness Space understands that it is possible to love, cherish and accept your body at any size, as well as, desire to focus on maintaining a comfortable weight that is right for you! These two ideas can co-exist within the same space and you should not be made to feel guilt or shame for thinking this way!
This is not a diet! It’s a mindset shift! Health at Every Size (HAES) was originally developed to combat weight stigma and discrimination in healthcare by presenting research focused on how weight is not the only determinate of good heath, and a higher weight is not necessarily correlated with poor physical health.
HAES also offers an alternative, more holistic approach to the idea of and restrictive dieting, which is rampant in today’s social media dominant culture, can be harmful for your body, is ineffective and is counterintuitive in reaching your goals!
How It Works…
The Mindfulness Space focuses on working with clients to heal from issues related to body image by fostering self-acceptance and self compassion in a world that can be unaccepting to people who don’t fit into society’s decided, often unrealistic and culturally biased beauty standards.
We then begin the process of addressing the underlying issues that lead to binge eating instead of using food to soothe painful feelings and emotions!
We work on identifying and implementing new ways of thinking, as well as, new behaviors and holistic lifestyle changes, such as focusing on learning how to eat intuitively by relying on your body’s internal hunger cues vs. external influences rooted in diet culture that are restrictive in nature. We challenge the old ways of thinking about exercise by assisting you with exploring in ways to move your body that are enjoyable and feel safe and comfortable for you. You can rest assure that the Mindfulness Space will meet you wherever you are in your journey, with gentleness and compassion, while honoring your body and aligning with the HAES model.
